How Elon Musk became the Richest Man in the World
Mali Expels ECOWAS Representative
The Malian transitional government has expelled ECOWAS Special envoy Hamidou Daly from the country. The envoy was given 72 hours to depart from the country.
“The government of the Republic of Mali has decided to declare the ECOWAS special representative in Mali persona non grata, in view of his actions that are incompatible with his status,” a government statement broadcast on state television said on Monday.
The military government in power
In August 2020, soldiers kicked out civilian president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita in a coup. The coup plotters were then forced to establish a transitional presidency.
In May 2021, the coup mastermind, Col. Assimi Goita took charge from the transitional government alongside an appointed civilian Prime Minister, Kokalla Maiga. See the full story here.
Since the coup, the Economic Commission of West African States has been urging strongly on Mali to respect its commitment to hold presidential and legislative elections next year. UN Security Council delegates also add to international pressure for Goita to respect the set deadline, February 27, 2022, for the presidential election.
Elon Musk becomes the Richest man in the World
Before we go further, let’s look at three companies founded by Elon Musk.
SpaceX: a company looking to make space tourism a past-time for humans.
Tesla: an electric car manufacturing company that seeks to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.
Neuralink: a company that seeks to connect the human brain to computers, and provide a seamless interface between animate and inanimate so it's possible to hack and fix the human brain using the computer.
So how did he become the richest man?
According to Forbes, Positive quarterly earnings and a large order for the purchase of electric vehicles by Hertz helped push the market capitalization of Tesla to more than $ 1 trillion.
Musk’s fortune was valued at $ 271.3 billion this week, up about $ 41.7 billion from last Friday’s estimate. The reason for this significant jump lies in the rise in Tesla’s stock price by 13%.
For the first time ever, the fortune of Elon Musk approached $300 billion.
Earlier, the ranking of the richest man in the world was headed by the founder and former head of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. Amazon’s stock price was at its peak in July this year, pushing Bezos’s fortune to $ 212 billion, about $ 59 billion less than Musk’s now. Forbes has been counting the fortunes of billionaires since 1982.
